Three magic ingredients in a seedbox for General Practitioners: a sparkling recipe for cultivating Planetary Health in primary care teams

Carl DEANEY

The French College of General Practitioners (CMG) has been hosting a working group on Planetary Health since 2021. This group, composed of 20 General Practicioners (GPs), is committed to creating a Planetary Health seedbox with tools for GPs and their teams. What are the 3 magic ingredients that enable this group to actively cultivate the seeds of Planetary Health and spread it all around planet earth ?The working group is a place where experts with different skills in Planetary Health are now well identified: their role is also to link in an interdisciplinary perspective the different Planetary Health networks in France and abroad, and to initiate work and partnerships with national and international institutions. Our previous and future works include :  – General awareness on Planetary Health – Perinatal care – Planetary Health diet – Organising an event respecting Planetary Health values – Eco-responsible prescribing – Integrating Planetary Health in coordinated health projects – Responding to common medical situations with a Planetary Health approach – Prescribing nature All these topics are part of the current seedbox, which keeps on growing with new topics. We are currently working on supporting Planetary Health training and research. We propose to share the recipe for our dynamics, our values and our themes with the aim of giving an overview of our seedbox and sharing ideas and inspiration with primary care teams and other networks including european networks. Spoiler alert, you'll find just below the three magic ingredients that make our group efficient and cohesive: Awareness, teamwork, cobenefitsBy actively promoting Planetary Health, our group expects to inform, train and encourage people to take action : this is the role we must play if we are to meet the immense challenges posed by environmental change. The three identified ingredients of how we operate together help us to play this role.We limited the choice to three ingredients in order to convey a clear message. However, other key ingredients could have been chosen : sense of emergency, scientific approach, institutional support, expertise …Let's join to sow the seeds of Planetary Health all together.
