The smart use of credit in family medicine

There are many situations in which family doctors need to expand their medical activity: buying either a new diagnostic tool, or a new building, or hiring more staff, or others. In these situations, even having a good financial reserve, it may be smart to use credit. The use of credit is nearly unavoidable among doctors who are self-employed or who are partners in a medical society. A smart use of credit may boost incomes and may allow to achieve the goals. An erroneous use of credit may lead to a disaster. No use of credit may be a loss of opportunities.To provide an overview of the essential financial concepts adapted to family doctors To explain different types of financial credit instruments (mortage, loan, pledge…) To show the best way of using credit in different situations To analise essential financial indicators To increase the financial knowledge of the participants applied to family medicine1- Theoretical introduction: 15 minutes We will explain the essentials of finance for doctors. We will introduce the exercise to be done by the attendants in groups. 2- Practical exercise to be done in small groups of 5 people: 20 minutes The exercise will allow participants to put into practice their knowledge and understanding of the theory 3- Group discussion: 20 minutes Each group will explain their work and the colleagues will discuss strengths and weaknesses. 4- Conclusions: 5 minutes The conductors of the workshop will draw the conclusions after the group discussion.
