The Holistic Chronic Pain Consultation: Integrating Lifestyle Interventions to Enhance Self-Management in Primary Care

Alicja WOS

Chronic pain affects 30-50% of the adult UK population. Despite NICE guidelines recommending against their use for chronic primary pain, sciatica and back pain gabapentinoids are frequently overprescribed, leading to significant patient burden, NHS costs, and environmental impact. This study, set in a North Yorkshire GP-teaching practice, introduced a holistic, patient-centred consultation model to promote self-management and reduce gabapentinoid dependency.
