Synthesizing cross-country evidence on the prevalence and correlates of exercise addiction in India, Malaysia, and Taiwan

Meng-Che TSAI, Jansen Marcos CAMBIA and Chih-Ting LEE

Although regular physical activity is typically associated with enhanced well-being, the excessive and compulsive patterns of exercise characteristic of exercise addiction (EA), characterized by compulsive engagement in excessive physical activity, may paradoxically be associated with a decline in perceived well-being over time. A remarkable increase in the frequency and intensity of exercise across populations in different countries has been observed in recent years, but little is known in Asian contexts.
