Role of Emotional Intelligence & Leadership Skills in General Practice

Modern healthcare has changed a lot with technological advances, incorporation of AI in health systems, paradigm shift in medical education, inrease awareness among patients and expectations of the public from healthcare providers. General practice is the back bone of healthcare system and provision of effective health services is entrusted to "Healthcare Team"rather than an individual. Healthcare team in general practice is lead by the GP, who must be trained in leadership skills, emotional intelligence, effective planning and strategic management, to ensure efficient healthcare services delivery.This will be a hands on practice workshop. The objective of the workshop is to sensitize, train and motivate the participants to learn, practice & familiarize the fundamentals of Healthcare leadership skills, Multidisciplinary Team dynamics, emotional intelligence, effective planning and strategic management.TIME: two hours Hands on practice workshop, facilitated by four facilitators from diverse fields Teaching strategies: Multiple teaching & learning strategies (Interactive presentations; SGD, Role playing and reflections). Workshop Schedule: 1. Introduction – (5min) 2. Pre-assessment of participants – (5min) 3. Small group activity of leadership models – (15min) 4. Interactive presentation on Emotional Intelligence.- (20min) 5. Reflections on personal practices – (15min) 6. Interactive presentation of effective planning & Strategic management – (20min) 7. Small group activity on Strategic plans – (30min) 8. Reflections – (10min) 9. Post workshop Assessment – Small group activity of leadership models – (5min)By the end of the workshop, each participant would be able to: 1. Analyze the significance of leadership skill in healthcare teams. 2. Demonstrate small group dynamics in multidisciplinary teams. 3. Effectively analyze and manage his own emotions, by identifying others emotions in difficult situations of medical practice. 4. Effectively design, develop, implement and evaluate the strategic plans of healthcare reforms in era of 21st century. 5. Develop and practice empathy in everyday life in general; and healthcare practice in specific.General Practice demands humanism, empathy, emotional intelligence and soft skills as much as the medical knowledge and clinical skills of health professionals.
