Job satisfaction and enjoyment of work by the medical workforce is a critical factor in delivering quality of care in primary care. It influences engagement with work, productivity and quality of communication. It is also a factor that influences the retention of the medical workforce. When it is diminished or absent it impacts on patient safety culture. The perspectives of the primary care workforce need to be collected and communicated through representative organisations to multiple stakeholders in the health sector.Learning Objectives will be achieved by group work in two consecutive sessions: Q1. What factors contribute to JOY AND SATISFACTION, and what contributes to the CHALLENGES faced by doctors in experiencing job satisfaction and joy in medical practice? Q2. What solutions do you propose for improving job satisfaction and joy for people who work in primary care?5 MINUTES – context setting presentation 10 minutes brainstorming in small groups Q1  10 minutes reports from small groups on Q1 10 minutes brainstorming in small groups Q2  10 minutes reports from small groups on Q2 10 minutes open floor discussion and conclusion closeExplore the factors that promote job satisfaction and retention of the medical workforce in family medicine. Use this information to advocate for improving the work conditions of the medical workforce in family medicine. Gather views on how we communicate this information to health sector stakeholders (employers, health service managers, policy makers, regulators, the government, the public)The pursuit of quality of care requires health sector employers and stakeholders to support the retention of the medical workforce employees and contractors. Job satisfaction and enjoyment of work are key factors that impact on retention of healthcare workers, and on patient safety culture and on the experience of care quality by both patients and the primary care team. Advocacy is necessary for physician wellbeing and optimum patient experience.
