During a novel respiratory pandemic, primary care clinics form the first point of contact for patients and visitors. Clinics must rapidly triage individuals based on symptoms and exposure risk, identify potentially infected persons, and manage or refer them according to established protocols. At the same time, continuity of care for patients with non-infective acute and chronic conditions must be preserved. Achieving safe segregation of potentially infectious patients from others requires clinic infrastructure that supports pandemic workflow, yet infrastructure is difficult to modify once constructed. This reflection examines the planning considerations for clinic layout to ensure pandemic readiness.
