From Prompt to Practice: Hands-on Use of Artificial Intelligence in Daily Family Medicine
Adi SEGAL, Dorin LEVI, Inbal POLINER and Dorin TAL
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are becoming increasingly accessible to clinicians, offering significant potential to support family medicine in areas such as clinical reasoning, documentation, patient communication and medical education. Despite this availability, structured training for the practical application of AI in primary care remains limited. Many family physicians and residents lack confidence in translating AI’s capabilities into safe and meaningful everyday practice. This workshop addresses this gap by focusing on experiential, scenario-based learning grounded in best practices for digital health and lifelong learning.By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: Identify common clinical and educational scenarios in family medicine where AI tools may be appropriately used. Use AI tools to generate practical outputs for daily primary care work and to optimize study processes (e.g. summarizing guidelines, literature review). Formulate effective prompts and critically evaluate AI-generated results. Recognize limitations, ethical considerations, data protection and patient safety issues related to AI use in family practice. The workshop will be conducted in an interactive, small-group format. Participants will be divided into teams and presented with real-life scenarios commonly encountered in family medicine and residency training. Each group will work hands-on with AI tools to produce a defined practical output, such as a patient-facing explanation, learning aid for complex medical topics and more. Workshop Schedule The session will begin with a brief plenary introduction. This will be followed by facilitated small-group work on selected scenarios (clinical and educational) with hands-on use of AI tools. The session will conclude with a plenary discussion in which groups will share outputs, discuss challenges, and identify transferable tools for both practice and learning.Participants will gain practical experience and increased confidence in using AI tools. They will leave with ready-to-use prompts, workflows, and examples that can be immediately applied in their clinical settings and utilized to streamline their professional development and learning routines. This workshop provides family physicians and residents with a structured, hands-on approach to integrating AI tools into everyday practice. It supports efficiency and innovation while maintaining patient-centered, safe care, and enhances the capacity for continuous medical education.
