Effects of Six-Month Camellia Oil Consumption on Serum Lipid Profile in Adults: A Prospective Self-Controlled Study

Camellia oil is commonly regarded as a functional dietary oil with potential cardiovascular and metabolic benefits. While it is frequently used for health promotion in Asian populations, clinical evidence regarding its effects on serum lipid levels remains limited.This study aimed to evaluate the impact of six months of regular camellia oil consumption on lipid profile parameters in adult participants.This prospective self-controlled study enrolled 36 adults who agreed to use camellia oil for daily meal preparation while maintaining their usual dietary habits and lifestyle. Two participants were excluded due to incomplete data, leaving 34 subjects for final analysis. Fasting blood samples were collected at baseline and after six months to measure triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Paired t-tests were applied to compare pre- and post-intervention lipid values. Although minor fluctuations in triglycerides and cholesterol levels were observed, the overall metabolic impact on lipid profile appears limited. Further randomiszd controlled trials with larger sample sizes are needed to determine whether camellia oil exerts meaningful clinical effects on lipid metabolism.It might be possible that the effect of camellia oil was not as practical as the oriental people thought.
