Designing Community-Based Women’s Health Hubs: Transferable Principles for Improving Access and Equity

Aamena SALAR, Susheelwant RANDHAWA, Naresh RATI, Vincent SAI, Mina GUPTA and Nina JHITA

Across many countries, women face barriers to timely, person-centred gynaecological care, including long waits, centralised services, cultural stigma, and limited specialist provision. Community-based Women’s Health Hubs provide a flexible, locally adaptable model that brings care closer to women’s everyday settings, strengthens continuity, supports earlier intervention and improves equity. Drawing on experience from a multi-site programme, this workshop focuses on the universal principles that underpin successful hub models and shows how these can be adapted to diverse international contexts.Participants will be able to: Understand the core components of a community-based Women’s Health Hub adaptable across different health systems. Identify workforce, training and governance principles that support safe, effective care. Apply transferable steps for implementing women’s health services in low-, middle-, or high-resource settings. Explore co-design and culturally sensitive engagement strategies. Reflect on how hub principles can be adopted or modified in their own clinical or organisational context.Short presentations on global challenges and adaptable hub principles. Guided-reflection using digital polling (Mentimeter) to explore which elements of the model participants would retain, adapt or omit in their own settings. Small-group discussion of poll results with facilitators sharing insights on variation, feasibility and cultural considerations. Case-based discussion highlighting examples from contrasting international contexts. This balanced format supports both strategic understanding and practical application for a broad audience. Schedule 0–10min: Global challenges in women’s health and why community-based models matter. 10–20min: Core principles of Women’s Health Hubs (clinical scope, workforce, pathways, cultural adaptation). 20–35min: Interactive Mentimeter-based reflection + small-group discussion (“Keep, Adapt, Omit”). 35–50min: Case-based challenges and facilitator-led discussion. 50–60min: Summary, key takeaways and Q&A.Participants will gain: A flexible framework for implementing community-based women’s health services. Insight into how to adapt service components to different cultural, economic and organisational contexts. Tools to begin planning or refining women’s health services in their locality. Increased confidence in evaluating feasibility and identifying enablers within their own setting. This workshop provides a globally relevant roadmap for improving access, equity and quality in women’s health through community-based models. Blending strategic insight with interactive reflection, it offers practical, transferable learning that delegates can adapt to their own environments.
