A Study on General Practitioners’ Knowledge, Awareness and Current Management Status of Mild Cognitive Impairment

To investigate the knowledge and current management status of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) among general practitioners (GPs) in primary care.A questionnaire survey was conducted among GPs in primary care. The electronic questionnaire was distributed via the Fengtai District Community Health Service Administration Center from January 2024 to May 4, 2025, and completed by the participating GPs voluntarily. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 software. Measurement data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation (x̄±s), and count data were expressed as composition ratios or rates.A total of 185 questionnaires were distributed, with a recovery rate of 100%. The knowledge of GPs regarding MCI diagnostic criteria, risk factors, and screening tools was relatively low. Community health service centers had insufficient experience in MCI management. Regarding training needs, 64.9% of GPs expressed a desire for MCI-related training. The order of training needs was as follows: MCI screening, diagnosis, risk factor identification, treatment plans, prognosis, and comprehensive management.The knowledge of MCI among GPs is not optimistic. Strengthening training for GPs to improve their MCI-related knowledge will help identify MCI patients earlier and delay disease progression.This survey indicates that primary-care GPs have limited knowledge of MCI diagnostic criteria, risk factors, and screening tools, and community health service centers lack standardized management experience. The high training demand, prioritizing screening and diagnosis, points to practical gaps that may delay case detection. Targeted continuing education, adoption of validated screening instruments, and clear referral and follow-up pathways could strengthen early identification and continuity of care.GP knowledge and management capacity for MCI are insufficient. Strengthening structured, practice-oriented training—especially in screening and diagnosis—may improve early detection and support timely management, potentially slowing disease progression.
