Acute mental health presentations are increasingly encountered by general practitioners in both daytime practice and out-of-hours settings. Clinicians must rapidly assess risk, communicate clearly, and make appropriate triage decisions in situations involving intoxication, suicidal ideation, acute psychosis, or behavioural disturbances related to dementia. Acute Behavioural Disturbance (ABD) may also occur, presenting with severe agitation or aggression; management typically begins with verbal de-escalation, with the option of oral or intramuscular (IM) medication such as benzodiazepines when necessary. These scenarios often evolve unpredictably and require a structured yet flexible approach. This workshop uses a “multiverse” concept as an engaging framework to demonstrate how similar presentations can lead to different outcomes depending on early recognition of red flags and chosen management strategies.1. Recognise key warning signs in common acute psychiatric emergencies in primary care. 2. Apply practical, structured approaches to risk assessment in intoxication, psychosis, suicidal thoughts, and behavioural crises in dementia. 3. Identify when de-escalation, referral, or immediate safety measures are required. 4.
