Faced with chronic conditions and not-communicable diseases, mental health challenges, and complex social issues, general practitioners increasingly act as guides and partners in their patients\u2019 health journeys. Our mission now includes promoting health, preventing illness, and empowering patients to care for themselves. The distinction between what is normal and what is pathological as well as the boundaries between our professional and the patient\u2019s private life makes the question of what is medical or not medical increasingly complex. Developing the ability to demedicalize whenever appropriate is emerging as a core competency for the future of general practice.Critical reflection on our own practices and what we include in our professional role or not. Discussion about how we deal with this evolving and complex professional role.
