However, GAP consultations pose several challenges: clinicians are unfamiliar to patients, many of whom present complex needs, and appointment times are short. These conditions can create barriers to clear communication and shared understanding. To improve communication quality, patients are invited to use Getting Ready (GR), an accessible, structured preparation tool previously validated in other healthcare contexts (https:\/\/gettingready.ca\/). GR helps patients articulate their concerns, describe the impact of their problem, and formulate questions prior to the consultation.To examine how GR influences communication quality and interaction processes between orphan patients and GAP clinicians.This prospective observational study is conducted in a regional GAP and five primary care clinics offering GAP appointments. Participants include healthcare professionals (n = 10) and adult patients, referred for GAP consultations and invited to complete GR online before their visit (target n = 200). Data sources include post-visit patient questionnaires, clinician questionnaires, and focus groups with both patients and clinicians. Data collection is ongoing; final results will be available at the time of the conference.Based on prior evidence showing that GR improves patient\u2013provider communication in various care settings, we anticipate greater clarity in patient concerns, better prioritization of issues during time-limited visits, and more efficient, patient-centred dialogue in GAP consultations.Evidence from other contexts suggests that preparation tools like GR can reshape the consultation dynamic by helping patients focus, organize their concerns, and feel more confident when meeting unfamiliar clinicians. In GAP settings, GR may reduce communication barriers linked to patient complexity and short appointment lengths. The study will also shed light on how preparation tools influence workflow, clinician experience, and patient engagement. Identifying facilitators and barriers specific to the GAP model will be essential for informing implementation at scale and adapting the tool to diverse primary care environments.GR represents a promising, scalable tool to support patient preparation and strengthen the quality of primary care encounters across first-line access systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-20573","wsa_session","type-wsa_session","status-publish","hentry","description-off"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/woncaeurope2026.org\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/wsa_session\/20573","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/woncaeurope2026.org\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/wsa_session"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/woncaeurope2026.org\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/wsa_session"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/woncaeurope2026.org\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=20573"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
