A proposal from French general practitioners."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cLeadership\u201d skills first appear in the French professional framework for general practice (GP) in 2025. Leadership already exists in the Canadian physician competency framework \u2018CanMEDS\u2019 and has many definitions in the literature. The need for training in \u201cdistributed leadership\u201d for postgraduate students or residents in GP has been identified in several recent studies.A workshop will be offered at the National Congress of GP in December 2025 (CNGE). This workshop is open to all congress participants who wish to attend (students, general practitioners, patients, other healthcare professionals and teachers). Four general practitioners who teach at the University of Rennes will facilitate the workshop. The objectives of the workshop are as follows: To compare participants&#039; views on leadership skills. To develop a common understanding of this concept. To gather concrete examples of professional situations involving leadership. To identify existing training resources and those that need to be developed. To determine the expected level and assessment criteria in \u201cleadership\u201d for GP residents.\u00a0A summary of this workshop will be produced.This is a review of the first French reflection on leadership skills for GP residents. There is currently no specific leadership training at our university. There is a emerging dynamic that questions the definition of this competency and the possible teaching methods in GP residents\u2019 training.The workshop summary will improve the development of a leadership training program currently underway at the University of Rennes (France).The English word \u201cleadership\u201d is currently a subject of debate among teaching general practitioners, particularly because of its managerial connotations. We seek to examine the more humanistic aspects of this concept in order to define the new role of French general practitioners, particularly within primary care teams.Innovative leadership training is essential for the training of future general practitioners.
