Pressures on GP trainees have increased and include burnout as an occupational risk. To prevent attrition, focus on mitigation at an early stage in training has been recommended.To investigate the efficacy of a pilot curriculum based mindfulness reflection and resilience program for GP RegistrarsGP trainees were invited to attend 4 morning sessions and one retreat day which was integrated into the curriculum. Volunteers from the intervention group were invited to join a discussion forum aimed at exploring experiential learnings in greater depth. Qualitative data gathered from the focus group was analysed using thematic analysis to identify common themes and insights.The focus group identified a number of themes including quality of cross specialty program delivery and content, the experience of a safe space, the relevance of content, the uptake of mindfulness skills and the impact of these skills on stress management. Challenges to sustainable practice were also identified.Burnout among medical professionals is common at all stages. Occupational stress and exposure to human pain and suffering predisposes medical professionals to this condition. Taking steps to manage these stressors and sustain personal psychological health should be proactive and provided for in training.Medical Students are at high risk of psychological distress, depression and suicidality. The health and well- being of doctors is key to supporting the quality and safety of patient care.
