The concept of planetary health offers a holistic understanding of the complex interrelationships of health and the vitality of planetary systems. Addressing the human impact of global environmental change requires an expansion of the medical ethos and medical practice in the Anthropocene. We conducted a non-systematical literature review and argue for the integration of Planetary Health values in considerations of general practitioners's medical ethos and clinical practice. The existing frameworks and findings were adapted and applied to primary care and general practitioner’s clinical work. The abundance of position papers, reports, and initial measures from professional associations such as WONCA and EYFDM show a great interest in planetary health values. The challenge will be to develop effective measures and instruments in order to meet the necessary speed in dealing with planetary emergency. In view of the rapidly intensifying planetary crises, swift and courageous action is needed to avert the worst effects of exceeding planetary boundaries and to adapt social structures to the already noticeable and intensifying impacts. The international code of medical ethics by the World Medical Association (WMA) has already included planetary health as a third core value for medical practice, alongside doing no harm and patient autonomy. General practitioners can thus play a key role in communicating and initiating solutions to combat planetary crises. The primary care system can be a driver and beacon in a socio-ecological transformation toward a resilient health care sector and society. More and more actors in the healthcare sector are joining forces to embark on this path.Further development of general practitioner’s self-image and ethos is required with regard to the contribution of the healthcare system to socio-ecological transformation for healthy people on a healthy planet.

["post-20405","wsa_session","type-wsa_session","status-publish","hentry","description-off
["GET
