Despite Israel having one of the lowest incidence and mortality rates among OECD countries, only about half of eligible women adhere to recommended cervical cancer screening guidelines. Previous studies have identified demographic and clinical factors associated with reduced screening uptake. Emerging evidence suggests that mental health conditions may influence preventive healthcare engagement, yet findings regarding the association between depression, anxiety, and cervical cancer screening remain inconsistent. To date, no population-based studies in Israel have examined this association.To evaluate the association between depression and anxiety and adherence to cervical cancer screeningThis retrospective cohort study will use data from the Maccabi Healthcare Services Database between January 2018-December 2024. The study population is expected to include approximately 300,000\u2013350,000 women eligible for routine cervical cancer screening during the study period. Participants will be classified into two groups: women with documented pharmacological treatment for depression and\/or anxiety for at least three consecutive months, and a control group without psychiatric diagnoses or related medication use. Secondary analyses will stratify women according to formal diagnoses of depression or generalized anxiety disorder, and mental illness severity will be assessed using proxy measures including antipsychotic medication use and psychiatric healthcare utilization. Women with prior abnormal cervical pathology, immunodeficiency, hysterectomy, or initiation of psychiatric diagnosis or treatment after January 1, 2018 will be excluded. The primary outcome is adherence to cervical cancer screening according to national guidelines. Secondary outcomes include screening frequency and healthcare utilization patterns. Analyses will adjust for relevant demographic and clinical covariates.This is a study in progress, and data analysis is ongoing.
