Unhealthy nutrition habits, characterized by a low intake of vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains, and a high intake of sodium, added sugars, and ultra-processed foods, are major modifiable contributors to these conditions. Despite strong evidence supporting nutrition interventions, family doctors often face time constraints, limited nutrition training, and uncertainty about providing brief dietary counselling. This workshop addresses the need for practical, evidence-based tools that can be efficiently integrated into routine consultations to support the prevention and management of NCDs.1. To provide a clear, evidence-based overview of nutrition principles relevant to chronic disease prevention and management. 2. To develop participants’ skills in conducting brief nutrition assessments using practical tools such as healthy plate models, short questionnaires, and SMART goal techniques within time-limited consultations. 3. To strengthen physicians’ ability to analyse clinical cases and translate nutrition recommendations into personalised, achievable goals for effective routine counselling.1. Theoretical part with quiz. A concise evidence overview introduces key mechanisms linking diet with major NCDs. Healthy nutrition recommendations (Mediterranean Diet, Healthy Plate Models, Nordic Nutrition Recommendations, etc.) and evidence-based nutrition guidelines for type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease will be presented. A short quiz supports active engagement. 2. Brief nutrition assessment techniques. Participants practise using short questionnaires, plate models, and structured SMART goal setting to identify dietary risks, prioritise counselling topics, and deliver effective guidance within short consultations. 3. Small-group case work. Working in small groups, participants analyse realistic NCD-related clinical cases, select appropriate assessment tools, and formulate personalised SMART nutrition goals that translate recommendations into feasible behavioural actions. Workshop schedule: 60 minutes (20 min. each part).Participants will gain practical tools for brief nutrition counselling, increased confidence, and an enhanced ability to translate evidence-based recommendations for NCD prevention and treatment into personalised nutrition goals. This workshop equips primary care clinicians with practical, evidence-based nutrition tools to use in routine consultations, enabling them to guide patients toward sustainable dietary changes that support the prevention and management of chronic diseases.
