{"id":19860,"date":"2026-07-31T10:32:05","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T10:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woncaeurope2026.org\/sessions\/liberty-equity-and-fraternity-after-the-history-of-family-medicine\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T10:32:05","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T10:32:05","slug":"liberty-equity-and-fraternity-after-the-history-of-family-medicine","status":"publish","type":"wsa_session","link":"https:\/\/woncaeurope2026.org\/fr\/sessions\/liberty-equity-and-fraternity-after-the-history-of-family-medicine\/","title":{"rendered":"Liberty, equity and fraternity after the history of family medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The development of family medicine in the 21st century towards the goals of liberty, equity and fraternity can use the lessons learned after the\u00a0previous\u00a0work of outstanding physicians of the past.\u00a0If we do not know where we come from and what are the challenges faced by our predecessors, we are at risk of committing\u00a0again the same mistakes\u00a0rather than using their\u00a0expertise.To illustrate with some examples the achievement of liberty,\u00a0equity\u00a0and fraternity after the lives of outstanding physicians, as follows:\u00a0 &#8211; Julian Tudor\u00a0Hart:\u00a0the\u00a0inverse\u00a0care\u00a0law;\u00a0research\u00a0in\u00a0primary\u00a0care;\u00a0working\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0deprived\u00a0populations\u00a0(fraternity)\u00a0 &#8211; Barbara\u00a0Starfield:\u00a0the\u00a0features\u00a0of\u00a0primary\u00a0health\u00a0care\u00a0(equity)\u00a0 &#8211; David\u00a0Sackett:\u00a0evidence\u00a0based\u00a0medicine\u00a0(equity)\u00a0 &#8211; Archibald\u00a0Cochrane:\u00a0effectiveness\u00a0and\u00a0efficiency\u00a0(equity,\u00a0fraternity).\u00a0War\u00a0volunteer\u00a0(liberty)\u00a0 &#8211; Albert\u00a0Schweitzer:\u00a0international\u00a0cooperation\u00a0(liberty,\u00a0equity,\u00a0fraternity)\u00a0 To\u00a0identify\u00a0the challenges in the present time related to liberty,\u00a0equity\u00a0and fraternity, in Europe and abroad.\u00a0 To suggest strategies to combat the obstacles to reach liberty, equity, and fraternityBrief lecture\u00a0summarising\u00a0the main achievements of outstanding physicians of the 20th\u00a0century and introduction of the exercise: 15 minutes\u00a0 Exercise:\u00a0identifying\u00a0the current challenges related to liberty,\u00a0equity\u00a0and fraternity in our context, and drawing an action plan to overcome them. 20 minutes\u00a0 Group discussions: 20 minutes\u00a0 Conclusions by the presenters: 5 minutesTo develop skills to\u00a0identify\u00a0the challenges\u00a0on\u00a0liberty,\u00a0equity\u00a0and fraternity in a geographical context and in the present or near future.\u00a0 To suggest some tools to\u00a0leverage\u00a0the actions in favour of liberty,\u00a0equity\u00a0and fraternity\u00a0 To draw an action plan to achieve liberty,\u00a0equity\u00a0and fraternity in Europe by the year 2030The\u00a0existing\u00a0challenges on\u00a0liberty,\u00a0equity\u00a0and fraternity in Europe should be\u00a0identified.
