Although palliative care (PC) is often associated primarily with oncology, its scope extends far beyond cancer. PC plays a crucial role in the comprehensive management of patients with serious chronic illnesses, including advanced COPD, severe congestive heart failure (CHF), and progressive dementia. It improves quality of life, assists with complex decision-making, reduces unnecessary interventions, and provides essential support to patients and families. Despite its value, PC training remains limited in many family medicine residency programs. Family physicians, who frequently care for patients with multimorbidity and progressive decline, require practical PC skills to integrate into everyday practiceThis workshop aims to equip family physicians with foundational palliative care competencies in the noncancerous patient through interactive, case-based learning. Participants will strengthen clinical decision-making, enhance communication with patients and families, and build confidence in guiding goals-of-care discussions and symptom management.Participants will engage in small-group discussions, case-based problem solving, and facilitator-led debriefing. Each case will highlight core PC principles, communication strategies, and real-world management approaches. Evidence-based guidance and practical communication tools will be emphasized throughout. Workshop Schedule: 0–5 min- Introduction: Why palliative care matters in noncancerous conditions. 5–20 min-Case 1,  severe dementia: Managing feeding decisions, agitation, caregiver burden Discussing goals of care and advanced directives 20–35 min – Case 2 , advanced COPD: Dyspnea management, crisis planning, addressing anxiety Communicating prognosis and supporting end-of-life decisions 35–50 min – Case 3 , severe CHF: Symptom  assessment and management 50–60 min -Summary & Reflection: Key take-home messages, practical tools for FM clinics, Q&A.By the end of the workshop, participants will: Recognize the importance of PC in noncancerous chronic illness. Develop improved communication skills for discussions on prognosis, goals of care, and advance directives. Gain confidence in symptom management and end-of-life clinical decision-making.
