Severe trauma is a major cause of preventable mortality, and a significant proportion of critically injured patients first encounter a family doctor, particularly in rural, semi-urban or community settings. Early assessment using the XABCDE framework—focusing on exsanguinating hemorrhage, airway, breathing, circulation, disability and exposure—is internationally recognised (ATLS, PHTLS, ERC Trauma) as a life-saving priority during the first minutes of care. However, many family doctors report limited training, low confidence and lack of structured tools to approach trauma systematically in low-resource primary care environments. This workshop addresses a core clinical gap by providing a practical and scalable method for early trauma recognition and response.1.      Understand and apply the XABCDE primary survey of a injured patient. 2.      Identify time-critical findings requiring immediate action or urgent EMS activation. 3.      Perform simple, high-impact interventions (hemorrhage control, airway positioning, shock recognition). 4.       Improve structured communication with emergency services using recognised handover formats. 5.      Integrate trauma first-response principles into daily primary care practice.A 60-minute hybrid workshop combining: – Brief evidence-based theoretical input introducing the XABCDE sequence.<br> – Faculty-led demonstration of the primary survey using a simulated casualty.<br> – Participant guided analysis through short clinical vignettes and “what-would-you-do” scenarios.<br> – Interactive discussion focused on prioritisation, errors to avoid, and adaptation to different primary care contexts. 10 min – Introduction: epidemiology, role of the family doctor, rationale for XABCDE.<br> 15 min – Step-by-step explanation of XABCDE with real-case examples.<br> 20 min – Live demonstration of the primary survey + recognition of red flags.<br> 10 min – Interactive clinical cases: decision-making under time pressure.<br> 5 min – Key messages, takeaway tools and integration into practice.Participants will acquire a clear, structured approach for assessment of trauma, improved confidence in identifying life-threatening conditions, and practical skills applicable in pre-hospital environments. They will leave with actionable tools to improve patient safety, reduce delays in care and strengthen collaboration with emergency medical services.This workshop offers a concise, evidence-based and highly applicable framework to support family doctors in delivering rapid, safe and structured first-response care in severe trauma. The hybrid format maximises learning within 60 minutes.
